Discover cross-country skiing at high altitude

At Oz 3300, you can try your hand at cross-country skiing or improve your skills! Whether you choose the skating technique or the double-poling technique, head to the Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine to access groomed trails at high altitude and glide to your heart’s content!

A sporting and recreational activity

Cross-country skiing can be practised in different styles: the classic style, following the tracks laid by the snow groomer, or the skating style, where you propel yourself forward by gliding on your skis (from one side to the other, as with ice skates or rollerblades). Cross-country skiers’ equipment consists of specialised, fairly flexible boots, poles and skis that are slimmer and lighter than those used in alpine skiing. This sport will help you improve your balance and endurance, and engage a large part of your body (torso, thighs, abdominal muscles, etc.). More advanced skiers will practise ‘simultaneous double-poling’ techniques, which are very useful for building up speed and sprinting, or the ‘one-step’ technique on flat terrain or gentle inclines.

The joys of skiing at high altitude

Cross-country skiing is an enjoyable and sociable way to get away from it all and rediscover nature. Far from the crowds, it gives all its enthusiasts a sense of freedom. From Oz 3300, you can take the cable car to the cross-country trails situated at an altitude of 2,100 metres. The trails offer splendid views of the snow-covered plateaus and the surrounding mountain ranges. There are two routes to choose from: the Circuit des Lacs (a 20 km red trail), a challenging route with plenty of ups and downs, and the Boucle de Poutran (a 10 km blue trail), suitable for all ability levels.
