Not to be missedIce cave

Ice cave

Between ski runs, why not take a break to visit the ice cave at an altitude of 2,700 metres? Ice and snow sculptures… Step inside a natural art gallery! At the heart of the Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine, the ice cave features 120 metres of galleries crafted by artists.

A temporary, man-made ice cave

For over 20 years, the ice cave has been created artificially every year. Mountain guides came up with the idea of building this cave using an air-filled tunnel; the structure is then deflated after being covered in snow. The cave is created at the start of the season and remains open throughout the winter until the ski resort closes in April. Each year, the theme set for the artists to create their sculptures is different: the Himalayas (2018), the funfair (2019), farm animals (2020)…

A fun family outing

You don’t need to be a caver to visit this cave – it’s accessible to everyone! Leave your skis at the entrance and step into a magical world! The ice cave is situated at an altitude of 2,700 metres in the heart of the ski area. It showcases its finest features across 120 metres of galleries and igloos, offering you a white spectacle full of magic and wonder. The sculptures are brought to life by a colourful, illuminated display. Take the time to admire the detail and precision of the works carved from snow or ice. Enjoy the coolness of this space: whatever the weather outside, the temperature never rises above 1°C! A must-see attraction, this cave is full of wonders waiting to be discovered!
