Not to be missedWalks on the lake plateaus

Walks on the lake plateaus

Grab your snowshoes and poles – or simply your walking boots – and set off to explore the beauty of our high-altitude plateaus, even in winter!

The Lakes Loop at an altitude of 2,000 metres

A designated natural heritage site, this easily accessible plateau holds some fabulous treasures in store for you. Groomed and safe trails will allow you to explore with ease as you make your way between the two cable cars at Alpette and Poutran. Discover the beauty of these snow-covered landscapes: the stunning ice falls along the cliffs, the pristine peaks of the surrounding mountains and the five frozen lakes (Carrelet, Lama, Faucille, Besson and Noir) hidden beneath the powder snow. Are you a fan of Nordic walking? Try the permanent trail at Alpette! In the warmer months, when the ice melts, you can even watch the flora and fauna as they gradually return to their natural rhythms.

The Col du Lac Blanc at an altitude of 2,800 metres

Starting from the Dôme des Rousses, a lovely walk will take you down to the Grotte de Glace at an altitude of 2,700 metres. A great opportunity to visit it with the family! Let yourself be awestruck by the vastness of the Grandes Rousses plateau, overlooked by Pic Bayle (3,465m), Pic de la Pyramide (3,382m) and Pic Blanc (3,330m).

Fancy a little trip to Alpe d’Huez?

Setting off from the Poutran cable car station, you can reach Alpe d’Huez on foot in just under an hour via the “Boucle de Poutran” footpath. Enjoy a lovely time in one of the most famous resorts in the Alps!

Plan your trip to the mountains

We all dream of that fresh, untouched snow that crunches under our feet! But to do it properly, you need to get off to a good start. And, above all, set off safely. Before heading out onto the groomed walking trails, make sure you check with the Tourist Office or the ski lift operators for information on which high-altitude walking trails are open and the day’s weather forecast.
