Recharge your batteries by the lakes and waterfalls

Oz, with its vast forests of fir and larch, its lush mountain pastures and its towering granite cliffs. Who would have thought this Alpine region was so rich in fresh, crystal-clear water? A stream winding its way along a path, or lakes perched on high-altitude plateaus… As you wander the trails, from the woodland at the foot of the peaks, soak up nature in complete tranquillity.

The atmosphere

of the Alpine lakes

At an altitude of 2,000 metres, vast alpine pastures and blueberry fields await you for a family picnic, a walk with your four-legged best friend, or a session of yoga and meditation in the great outdoors. Take your time choosing your favourite lake: Carrelet, Lamat, Faucille, Noir or Besson?

At 2,800 metres, the lunar landscape of the rocky terrain will transport you to the Plan des Cavalles. To the north lie the lakes of Milieu, Fare and Balme Rousse. Beneath the Barbarate Glacier, the crisp sound of your footsteps on the sandstone slabs will lead you towards longer, more challenging hikes. To the south, marvel at the turquoise waters of Lac Blanc, which overlooks Alpe d’Huez.

Just a stone’s throw away

from the waterfalls

The little Roubier stream offers a magical spectacle for young adventurers. In summer, it’s a favourite spot for walkers, who stop here to recharge their batteries during a break in the cool of the forest. This stream will accompany you from the plateaus down to the valley, passing through the resort of Oz, Bessey, Roberand and the village, where it once powered the old mill. On the Alpette trail, your inner child will delight in the sound of the babbling brooks you cross. If you prefer to follow the GR route over the Col de Poutran, you’ll discover the power and beauty of nature as you follow the water’s course.

The treasures of the Grandes Rousses massif:

  • Iron mines dating back to the Middle Ages.
  • Historic monuments such as the Abri Rajon and the Refuge de La Fare from the Resistance era in Oisans.
  • Quartz crystal points found near the footpaths.
